Hangdong Samoeng Loop Travel Guide

The Samoeng Loop is a scenic route that passes through the district of Hangdong and covers a good part of Chiang Mai and the outer surrounding areas.

This artcile will be helpful if you wish to make a day trip or overnight stay and not looking to drive any more than 1 hour from Chiang Mai city center.

HOTEL RESORTS IN HANGDONG DISTRICT

There are many Resorts to be found on the Samoeng Loop, many of which are submerged in nature, perfect if you want to connect with the tranquil sounds of the forest and escape the busy inner-city roads of Chiang Mai.

A simple search on Google Maps will bring up many options, on our trip we chose the Belle Villa Resort. The value for money was very good, even in high season (December 2019) we managed to book a deluxe room overlooking the Pool for just 1,665 baht per night with breakfast.

We really enjoyed the sunset view in the evening, this can be enjoyed from the deluxe room balcony at the Belle Villa Resort.

The pool during the day was a welcome refreshment and relife from the warm weather. The fact that the hotel was very quiet and not many guests means we had it to ourselves. There was also a sauna available for 150 baht per hour.

Veranda Resort Chiang Mai

Another Hotel worth mentioning is the Veranda Resort, which is considered to have one of the best infinity pools in Chiang Mai. On a seperate trip Tida and I spent the day enjoying the pool there which can be accessed to outside guests for 500 baht and includes a drink. We made a short video on that day, see below.

THE ROYAL ROSE GARDEN – HANG DONG

A great place to visit for lunch and a photo oppertunity is the Royal Rose Garden along the Samoeng Loop. With over 200 species of roses you can enjoy the amazing scents and colours that fill the grounds in this beautiful Royal development project.

The restuarant has a large menu offering locally grown organic produce and a selection of Thai dishes, and locally grown coffee. Tida and I enjoyed a healthy lunch in a pleasant outdoor dining setting surrounded by the blooming flora.

BRAND NEW FIELD GOOD

This unique and special restuarant was created in 2019 by the famous Thai singer New Napassorn Phoothornjai. It is sorounded by rice fields, scenic mountains and the amazing Wat Phra That Si Mueang Pong temple, another element that makes this restuarant so unique is that you have to walk 200 meters across an authentic wooden bridge over rice fields before you reach it which makes for a great photo oppertunity.

But this restuarant offers more than just scenic views, it also happens to have outstanding food and drinks at very reasonable prices. Tida and I enjoyed some Thai classics like pad see ew, and green curry which went down a treat.
